We Finally Know What College Vince Howard From ‘Friday Night Lights’ Committed To

Before Michael B. Jordan was the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four reboot, before he was Oscar in Fruitvale Station, and before he was Creed, he was Vince Howard, star quarterback of the Dillon Panthers in the well-loved TV show Friday Night Lights. When the show was canceled, Howard was being recruited by a number of top universities. Well, a few years late, and courtesy of the Dan Patrick Show, Vince finally committed.

And he picked… Michigan State?! In the words of one of our editors, “Coach Taylor would have never let him go Big Ten.” Even though Jordan claimed he was getting into character, he was clearly letting some bias of his real-world self get in the way of Howard’s all-important decision.

There are lots of reasons for a big-time high school quarterback to commit to Michigan State. It’s a great school, especially for football. But when you are a star high school football player in Texas, if you’re not going to play in Texas, you better at least play in the SEC. What would Buddy Garrity say? Probably something like, “All they got up north is the I-formation, son. How the hell you gonna be a Dallas Cowboy running the I-formation in college?”

Anyway, Jordan is cool for doing this, even if he screwed up the decision.
