A High School Girls Basketball Team In Detroit Lost 80-0 And It Could’ve Been Way Worse

Nope, no way. That sound you heard was basketball inventor James Naismith rolling over in his grave. The girls of Cass Tech in Detroit defeated nearby Osborn High School 80-0 on Senior Night. The tweet above is the scoreboard at the end of the game. 80-0 people. Not one single basket, not an accidental free throw that went in off the backboard or anything. Nada.

This might actually be worse than that 161-2 beating in a California game earlier this month. At least in that game, the team pressed well into the second half, played their starters in the third quarter. Against Osborn, Tech sat back, didn’t play their big guns. In fact, when it was all said and done, the starters logged about six minutes.

Coach Marissa Thrower:

“It was Senior Night, our last home game,” Thrower said. “Don’t make me out to be a bad guy. We did not press Osborn. My starters … they played about 6 minutes the entire game. I don’t know what to do in a situation like that.”

The leading scorer for Tech had 16 points. The leading scorer for Osborn had, nah, just kidding.
