A Man Swore He’d Eat His Mailbox Key If Deron Williams Scored More Than 30 Against Atlanta

If you’re a sports fan, odds are you have said something along the lines of “if [athlete] does [thing], I will do [thing]” in the past. It could lead to a bet that you make with a friend, or it could lead to you being the unfortunate star of a video on the internet. For Twitter user @MhDaDon, that second thing happened on Monday night, thanks to Brooklyn Nets guard Deron Williams.

Before the Nets and the Atlanta Hawks squared off in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series, @MhDaDon — whose real name is Miguel Hernandez — took to Twitter to boldly claim that he would eat his mailbox key if Williams dropped more than 30 points.

Seems like a pretty harmless thing to tweet. Williams has really struggled over the last two years in Brooklyn, and he’s no longer the dynamic All-Star guard he was earlier in his career. In fact, Williams has only scored 30 or more in a game once this year, when he dropped 31 on the Toronto Raptors earlier this month. Add in the fact that the Hawks had the fifth-best scoring defense in the league this year and the odds were probably in his favor.

Unfortunately for Hernandez, Williams had a monster night: 35 points on 13-for-25 shooting with 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Basically, it was the kind of game that made everyone say, “Oh, wait, Deron Williams used to be awesome.” Still, it meant that Hernandez had to eat his mail key… kind of.

After covering his key with ketchup (which was gross), Hernandez pretends to chew it (which you probably can’t do to a key) and swallow. Of course, when he goes to show that he swallowed it around the 47-second mark, you can see the key is tucked away in his lower lip.

Give Hernandez credit for acknowledging that he called this one wrong, but he still owes all of us one consumed key.
