The International Astronomical Union has agreed to name an asteroid after Cope, who died Feb. 27. The asteroid orbits the sun between Mars and Jupiter and is now officially known as 7835 Myroncope. The asteroid is about three miles wide and 88 million miles from Earth. It cannot be seen by the naked eye.
Man, what I wouldn't give for the city of Pittsburgh to be 88 million miles from Earth. Although I suppose, metaphorically, it already is.
