The Kansas City Chiefs traded with the Buffalo Bills to move up in the NFL Draft in order to take quarterback Patrick Mahomes out of Texas Tech with the 10th overall pick. The Chiefs see Mahomes as the quarterback of the future to take over for whenever Alex Smith leaves town, whether it’s after the 2017 or 2018 season. While the people of Kansas City may be ready to welcome Mahomes to his new home, back in Smith County, Tex. he had to deal with a scary situation.

According to a release from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, via KYTX, Mahomes and three others were robbed at gunpoint on May 12 after getting out of their vehicle in a driveway. They were approached by two men, with one gesturing as though he had a gun in the waistband of his pants and demanded they hand over their property.

The two men that allegedly robbed Mahomes and the others were Michael Blake Pinkerton, 34, and Billy Ray Johnson, 58. The two were caught and arrested and police found the stolen property in the suspects’ car. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident and the property was retrieved, but it had to have been a frightening incident for Mahomes, who is just reaching the highest level of his profession. Had something escalated with the robbery it could have been catastrophic.
