Ciara And Russell Wilson Moved Their Wedding Out Of North Carolina Because Of Anti-Trans Bathroom Laws

The list of things that the “shoeless hillbillies” of the upper Carolinas miss out on thanks to their preoccupation with potty politics just got a little longer. In an interview with The Knot, wedding planner Mindy Weiss revealed that Ciara and Russell Wilson moved their wedding out of the state in response to the state’s anti-trans bathroom laws.

“I did the whole thing — three times,” Weiss said. “They were first getting married in North Carolina, but they called it off due to the transgender bathroom laws.”

Weiss says the couple also tried to throw a wedding in Paris, but Fashion Week got in the way. Ultimately, Ciara and Russell were married at Peckford Castle in Liverpool, England back in July.

The wedding of two mega-celebrities is probably the smallest thing that North Carolina has lost due to their law. Several major musicians have pulled out of playing in the state and countless others have railed against the law during their shows. And nothing is likely to hurt the state as much as the loss of the 2017 NBA All-Star Game in Charlotte, putting the state in the history books alongside Arizona for losing a major sporting event due to being uncompromising in its laws.
