‘South Park’ Tackled The Colin Kaepernick National Anthem Controversy As Only It Can

South Park (yes, it is still on the air and it is still great, so shut up), delivered its commentary on the Colin Kaepernick national anthem protest story this week, and because this show is the best, it also roasted J.J. Abrams for being the content aggregator of the movie world, making it perhaps the greatest episode in the show’s history.

If you’re wondering how a post that is content aggregation can laugh about something else that’s content aggregation, that’s for you to reconcile.

To solve the anthem problem, Abrams is enlisted to “reboot” the Star-Spangled banner by slightly tweaking the song you’ve known and loved for years. In Abrams’ “vision” of the anthem, you can honor America by standing, kneeling or sitting, thus throwing Kaepernick and Mr. Garrison’s protest out of whack.

You see, that’s what Abrams does. Someone else did all the heavy lifting on Star Trek, so all he has to do is say, “But what if in my version, it’s Spock and Uhura dating instead of Kirk and Uhura dating.” The same thing goes for Star Wars, when he basically remade Episode IV and changed the protagonist from male to female and sprinkled in the characters you already know and love. This roast was long overdue.

Oh, right, the Kaepernick storyline. The protest spreads to the elementary school level and, of course, Randy is betting on if a child will sit during the anthem.

If you enjoyed South Park‘s take on Dan Snyder and the Redskins name, you will very likely enjoy this.
