It’s officially up to Floyd Mayweather to decide if he’ll ever fight Conor McGregor. UFC President Dana White announced late Wednesday night that Conor McGregor has signed on to the highly-anticipated fight between the MMA superstar and Mayweather.

White said over the weekend that the two sides were close, but on Wednesday night he appeared on TNT’s Inside the NBA after Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final and delivered the news many boxing fans have long been waiting for.

Leave it to Shaq to get right down to brass tacks.

“So McGregor/Mayweather: is it happening? Is it a myth?” Shaq asked. “Please let us know right now.”

White then confirmed that McGregor’s camp was on board.

“The McGregor side is done. I’m starting to work on the Mayweather side now,” White said with a smile. Still, he was cautious with his words.

I’m not saying the fight will happen. I’ve got one side done and now it’s time to work on the other. If we can come to a deal with Haymon and Mayweather, the fight’s going to happen.

Ernie Johnson asked White to clarify the rules of the fight, and he confirmed it will be a boxing match. Later, McGregor confirmed the agreement in a statement to TheMacLife.com.

“It is an honor to sign this record breaking deal alongside my partners Zuffa LLC, The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Paradigm Sports Management,” McGregor said.

“The first, and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on. Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await Al Haymon and his boxer’s signature in the coming days.”

Mayweather, of course, has been retired after winning 49 fights in a row. He still needs to sign on the dotted line to make this thing really real. But it looks like we’re getting closer and closer to one of the most anticipated matches of all time. And everyone involved getting paid a whole mess of money.
