Did Conor McGregor Just Threaten Floyd Mayweather?

Conor McGregor isn’t done taking Floyd Mayweather to task over recent comments that the disparity in popularity between the two is due to racism. Earlier this month the former boxing great said Conor “talks a lot of trash and people praise him for it, but when I did it, they say I’m cocky and arrogant. So biased! Like I said before, all I’m saying is this, I ain’t racist at all, but I’m telling you racism still exists.”

McGregor responded by referring to his Irish roots. “My people have been oppressed our entire existence. And still very much are,” he said, before offering to fight Mayweather for “a fair 80/20 split purse in my favour seen as your last fight bombed at every area of revenue.”

The topic came up again during the press conference for UFC 197, where McGregor will attempt to become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two championship belts at once.

“I think Floyd needs to learn before he opens his mouth, you don’t put a man like me in a situation like that,” Conor said. “You don’t put me in a name that’s got to do with prejudice. You don’t know nothing about me. I am a multi-cultural individual. I take from all cultures. Look at me. I am a product of many cultures as a young, Irish man.”

“I know he wasn’t saying that I am that person, but it put me in that bracket and I did not appreciate that one bit. There’s people buried in the desert for less than that. So Floyd needs to understand before he speaks who he is speaking about. And that is as simple as that.”

As usual, Conor McGregor isn’t afraid to share his strong opinions with the world, but did he take it a bit far with his suggestion people have been buried in the desert for less? Maybe the comment would be shocking coming from a normal person, but Conor has been making over the top statements like this since he arrived in the UFC. Minutes earlier during the very same press conference, he declared he’d “behead” Rafael Dos Anjos and “drag his head through the streets of Rio de Janeiro.”

So if Floyd wants to continue his war of words with Conor McGregor, he better be prepared for things to escalate. McGregor may not be the best fighter in the UFC (yet), but he’s the best smack talker by far, bar none.
