Conor McGregor Sounds Like He Wants To Fight Again Sooner Rather Than Later

As bad as 2016 has been as a year, at least we’ve had Conor McGregor and his three epic fights to entertain us all. It looked like we wouldn’t have the same in 2017 – after becoming the first fighter to hold two belts simultaneously, Conor revealed his girlfriend Dee Devlin was pregnant and planned to take some time off. The reasons were two-fold: so he wouldn’t stress out Dee during the pregnancy, and to give the UFC time to arrange a ‘real slice of the pie’ for him.

But in an interview recorded as McGregor accepted the RTE Irish Sportsperson of the Year award, Conor sounded antsy and ready to get back to work.

“As far as a break, I don’t know,” he told the Irish sports broadcaster. “I know Dana’s on record saying 10 months. I dunno about 10 months. At first I thought the baby was born in March and then it was May. So I was like, maybe I could get in there. I just don’t know. I’m weighing my options.
“But again, I expect that conversation,” McGregor continued. “I expect them to fly that jet to me. Ari [Emanuel], Patrick [Whitesell], the new owners from WME-IMG, the guys that bought the UFC for four billion dollars. I want to speak to them. I want to see what their plan is. Cuz right now I don’t know what anyone’s plan is. All I know is they’re trying to type onto a keyboard and say ‘We’re taking this belt and we’re taking that belt and we’re doing that. You ain’t doing nothing without contacting me first.

“So I’m ready for anything,” McGregor concluded. “I did say I was going to take a break. But … a Christmas break, the holidays! At least give me the holidays off. So we’ll see what happens in the future.”

It looks like 2017 may have just gotten a whole lot more interesting in the fight world.
