Conor McGregor Is Now Using Instagram To Taunt Floyd Mayweather

It seems we are approaching the will they or won’t they stage of a potential Conor McGregor-Floyd Mayweather superfight.

Rumors of the possible fight first sparked back in early May and since then both fighters have confirmed interest in fighting one another. Mayweather, widely regarded as the best boxer of his generation, recently hung up the gloves but said he’ll come out of retirement to fight McGregor, the disgruntled MMA champ who pulled out of his most recent card thanks to issues with the pre-fight obligations.

Nothing has been confirmed or announced regarding the superfight (though there is mere speculation that something could happen in Vegas this September) but that hasn’t stopped the preliminary trash talk between the two fighters. McGregor has been dishing out most of the smack thus far — already saying that he runs boxing and that Mayweather “needs” him as an opponent — and he recently took to Instagram to throw his latest.

At first glance it may appear that McGregor is showing off his new Rolls Royce, which is a thing we all enjoy doing on Instagram from time to time. But it’s in the caption that the UFC fighter seemingly takes aim at Mayweather.

I smell like a brand new car, wearing brand new clothes. Why would I ever give a f*ck, about you gossiping hoes. #TheFaceOfRollsRoyce#50Rolls#MoneyMcGregorWhatsFloydGonnaDo? #TakeAllTheirNames#DoNothing@rollsroycecarsna#ThanksForTheCheese

It’s interesting that he takes Mayweather’s nickname and dubs himself “Money McGregor” considering at this point the biggest holdup surrounding the fight seems to be McGregor’s quest for a bigger payday. That’s what begs the question “what’s Floyd gonna do?” I suppose.

Trash talk is wonderful, entertaining and consistently a huge part of fight marketing, but it’s most enjoyable when people are confident that it will build up to an actual fight. That may be the case eventually — Mayweather thinks the superfight is “absolutely” going to happen — but McGregor has his foot down on the gas like it’s already official. He may want to slow down on chirping until pen hits paper, for the sake of us all.
