Watch What This Cubs Player Did To Cause The Benches To Clear

With his team trailing 6-0 in the top of the sixth inning against the Marlins on Wednesday night, Cubs outfielder Junior Lake hit a two-run home run, cutting his team’s deficit to four. He seemed mighty impressed with himself afterwards, standing in the batter’s box for a few moments to admire his hard-hit ball before finally beginning his home run trot.

This did not sit well with the Marlins dugout, which was apparently chirping at Lake as he made his way around the bases. In response, Lake gave them the “shush” sign as he rounded third base, which resulted in the benches clearing and a classic “hold-me-back” routine from several players on both sides.

After the game, Cubs manager Joe Maddon was not happy with Lake’s theatrics that instigated the incident.

Lake was also apologetic, saying afterwards through an interpreter, “I recognize I wasn’t right. I knew after I crossed first, I didn’t do it right, but after that, I heard them chirping from the other dugout, and that caused me to lose control a little bit. I just want to really apologize to [Marlins pitcher Dan] Haren and fans and the rest of the team.”

Miami went on to win the game 7-3, taking two of three in the series.
