Former NFL tight end Todd Heap accidentally killed his young daughter while moving his truck in the driveway of his Arizona home. The 3-year-old was the youngest of the former Cardinals and Ravens star’s children and was taken to the hospital before succumbing to injury according to Fox 10 Phoenix:

According to a statement released by Mesa Police Friday afternoon, officers responded to a car vs. pedestrian accident at the 7600 block of East Summit Trail, at approximately 3:45 p.m. According to police, the address is a house located in a gated community in Las Sendas.

Once on scene, officers reportedly learned that the victim was on the driveway when her father moved the truck forward and struck her.

Authorities are still investigating the accident but noted that Heap showed “no signs of impairment.”

Heap made his mark in Baltimore, heading to the Pro-Bowl 2 times across 10 seasons, but also managed to give back to the community through his charitable efforts and The Todd Heap Family Pediatric Center that opened in 2010 at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore. In response to the tragic news, his former team offered a heartbreaking statement:

“We cannot imagine the heartbreak and sorrow Todd and Ashley’s family feels right now. This is knee-buckling news and overwhelmingly sad tragedy. Our prayers, our thoughts, and our hearts are with the Heaps, who have contributed so much to the Ravens and Baltimore community. We believe their deep faith and tremendous support from friends and family will help them through this unimaginable time.”
