Remember when ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted the medical records of the Giants’ Jason Pierre-Paul last summer?

There’s no way you don’t recall that, but we in the writing business have to explain things sometimes, so here it goes: Pierre-Paul blew off his fingers on July 4 in a fireworks accident, was admitted to a hospital in Miami for surgery, and two employees of said hospital were later fired over leaking the information, and the hospital settled a lawsuit over the whole thing.

Schefter defended his actions, and we’ve got a timeline of the whole ordeal right here.

Now, Pierre-Paul has Schefter and ESPN in his litigious crosshairs. He is suing the reporter and network for violating his privacy and Deadspin has the lawsuit posted for all to read.

“This action arises out of ESPN reporter Schefter’s blatant disregard for the private and confidential nature of plaintiff’s medical records, all so Schefter could show the world that he had ‘supporting proof’ of a surgical procedure.”

A lawsuit like this could be devastating to both Schefter and the network, because if they were to lose…hang on…it turns out Pierre-Paul is suing for $15,000? That’s it? He’s saying they violated his privacy and a Florida medical records statute and for that he wants the whopping sum of $15,000?

In April 2014, Forbes reported that ESPN was worth $50 billion. Celebrity Net Worth says Schefter is worth $4 million, while Jason Pierre-Paul made nearly $9 million last season.

Is there a point to this lawsuit? Is this fireworks money for 2016?

If Pierre-Paul wins, this could spell doom for one summer intern at ESPN and may force Schefter to wait a year before remodeling his kitchen. If that’s the price of justice in this case, so be it.
