You know that friend who won’t shut up about that one interesting thing that happened in his life? You’ll be sitting around at dinner and he’ll force that thing into conversation for the 100th time? “I was once an extra on Falcon Crest.” Yeah, great, Kevin. We know. You’ve told us.
That’s the Giants’ Jason Pierre-Paul, only it’s to remind everyone he did one of the dumbest things a person can do.
Over the weekend, Pierre-Paul changed his Twitter avatar to an X-ray of the hand he destroyed while lighting off fireworks on July 4, 2015. It’s been seven months and the inspirational tweets and Instagrams about overcoming his self-inflicted wound has made him a stronger and better person with an understanding of blah blah blah just don’t stop coming.
Anyway, here’s an X-ray of that hand. There’s probably some Shakespearean quote that goes with it but I’m not looking for it.
It’d be one thing if Pierre-Paul lost part of his hand while punching out a window to save a baby from a burning car. He was lighting off fireworks. And it’s not as though he was the same dominant player when he returned; he had one sack and 26 tackles in eight games last season after having 12.5 sacks and 77 tackles in 16 games in 2014. This was not a good thing that happened to him.
Pierre-Paul has an entire offseason to post more pictures of his hand in various states so get ready to be inspired.
