Chicago Cubs’ Rookie Kyle Schwarber Was Once A High School Show Choir Stud

Kyle Schwarber has established himself as one of the young stars on the Chicago Cubs. The power hitting left fielder is better than most people at smashing home runs, as evidenced by the absurd tater he hit in Game 4 of the NLDS against the St. Louis Cardinals that landed on top of the Wrigley Field scoreboard. In fact, Schwarber has shown throughout these playoffs why he has “future star” written all over him, as he’s hitting .538 with a .600 on base percentage and a 1.231 slugging percentage through five games. Not only that, but Schwarber has also hit three home runs through this year’s playoffs.

But before Schwarber became one of the most highly-regarded young players in high school, he was a star in his high school choir. Listen to him as he is front and center for Middletown High School’s choir, leading the whole crew in a performance of “Carol of the Bells.” The choir, named “Purple Pizzazz,” also did a performance of “Mr. Santa.” Schwarber wasn’t as prominently featured in this one, as he’s in the second row this time.

Schwarber’s Cubs will start its NLCS series against the New York Mets tonight in Queens. Hopefully before the game starts he serenades all of his teammates with a rendition of Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind.”
