Cavs point guard Kyrie Irving claims he had relations with a woman named Andrea Wilson, a former beauty queen who was crowned Miss Texas in 2010. Athletes having relations with women isn’t newsworthy, at least not normally. But TMZ is hot on the trail of some papers filed in a Texas court claiming Irving is the father of Wilson’s soon-to-be child. In fact, according to Wilson’s Instagram, she’s due in three months. From the outside looking in, it appears Kyrie is getting shut out after the two separated early this year.
Irving, for his part, wants to be involved in the child’s life. He even had his attorney issue this statement to TMZ.
In filing this petition, Kyrie is doing the right thing, taking responsibility and actively seeking to establish his rights so that he can be involved the day he becomes a father from the outset.”
This whole thing is bizarre, mostly because it seems it could have been handled behind closed doors. Once this hit the courts, it was only a matter of time before someone (cough, cough, TMZ) unearthed them. It’s also not beyond the realm of possibility that someone (cough, cough, Kyrie) tipped TMZ off to this story. Again, that’s just wild speculation.
Irving says he’s close to returning to the court following off-season knee surgery.
