Let’s Check In On Berlin’s Preparations For The 2014 FIFA World Cup

There’s a rumor going around that people of all (legal) ages in countries all over the world love to consume alcoholic beverages while they’re watching the World Cup, whether their national team is competing or not. I don’t know if this is true or not, because for some reason I don’t remember the last four World Cup tournaments, and I think that I’ve typically watched the games inside of dumpsters, because that’s where I always wake up. But if you needed proof that football fans from Abkhazia to Zimbabwe love to tip a few (dozen) back as they cheer on their teams, let’s head over to Berlin, where the locals are hard at work setting up the Berlin Fan Mile World Cup public viewing area.

And by “setting up” I mean they’re bringing in enough beer to fill the Rhine twice.

The German National Teal doesn’t play until Monday, when Miroslav Klose and Co. will take on Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo, who has apparently overcome the curse of a Ghanaian witch doctor to be able to play in the World Cup. But that’s not stopping the good people of Berlin from making sure that they have enough beer to last them through, oh I don’t know, let’s say Tuesday.

But don’t worry, Germans, there will be plenty of alternative beverages on hand as well, probably because your children will be responsible for getting you home. You know, if they’re not wasted, too.
