College football players can’t be paid a dime, but allowing them to wear slick new uniforms is a decent consolation prize, right? On Thursday morning, Adidas revealed some sweet new uniforms for the University of Louisville’s football team, along with an accompanying theme for them… “uncaged.”
Personally, I think the bird on the helmet is a bit much — and if you look closer, it’s borderline scary — but I dig the silver metallic numbers on them. Louisville isn’t the first school to experiment with new and unique uniform combinations. The University of Maryland has switched things up quite a bit in recent years.

What do you make of Maryland's new 'state pride' uniforms? http://t.co/eHuqPZjO pic.twitter.com/Zg90oA8c

The Cardinals will wear these during their September 5 opener against Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic, usually one of the most intriguing match-ups of college football’s opening weekend. If Louisville wants some new uniforms for the occasion, I’m all for it.
