Let’s All Laugh At These Lying Kings Fans Who Thought Their Team Won The Stanley Cup

The Stanley Cup very nearly went back to a California team this year, as the San Jose Sharks were just two wins away from glory. Alas, the Pittsburgh Penguins took home the hardware with a 4-2 series win in the Final. However, that didn’t stop several Los Angeles Kings fans (“fans?”) from celebrating their team’s (imaginary) title this season.

In reality, the Kings only managed a single playoff win this year before being eliminated by the Sharks in the first round, but Jimmy Kimmel Live! had some fun with alleged Kings fans on the street with their “Lie Witness News” bit. The concept is simple: Tell people something happened that didn’t actually happen, then film them as they go along with it and make themselves look like fools and/or pathological liars. Boom, entertainment!

And nobody came away from this segment looking nearly as bad as the first guy interviewed. It’s hard to get off to a hotter start than claiming his family is “large, uh, huge Stanley Cu-…uh, hockey fans.” I’m not sure how Kimmel’s crew managed to find the world’s worst liar, but I’m pretty convinced that nobody on earth is less convincing a fibber as that guy.

Also, I need to know if they let these people in on the joke before they put them on TV. If so, they’ve gotta start showing their reactions once they realize how exposed they are. That’s probably just as good as the lie itself.
