This Teenage Gymnast Invented A New Move On The Balance Beam, And It Looks Awfully Painful

Finally, a “dick move” someone can be proud of.

Eighteen-year-old Marisa Dick made gymnastics history by inventing and executing a move at the World Championships, a leg-switching, springboard-to-split mount on the balance beam.

Essentially, she jumped into a split and landed it.

The details at Refinery 29 are interesting; she had one chance to nail it and have the move named after her and appear in the sport’s official Code of Points. Now that the sport’s governing body has recognized the move, it is known as The Marisa Dick.

“It was incredible,” Dick said during a break from training at the Ortona Gymnastics Club in Alberta, Canada. “As soon as I landed on the beam, I was like, Oh my gosh, yay! But then I was like, Wait, I have a full routine to do still… I was just really excited that it worked out.”

Think about all the things that are unofficially named after you and realize how unimpressive they are in comparison to The Marisa Dick. You may think that it’s funny that “Pulling A Kevin” is throwing up in a bowling alley during a children’s birthday party, but it’s going to maybe hurt your job prospects.

Dick is trying to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 as a member of Trinidad and Tobago. If she executes the rest of her routine the way she did The Marisa Dick, then Marisa Dick will be known for more than The Marisa Dick, if that makes any sense.
