Much to the chagrin of Seahawks fans and, really, fans of football in general, Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch announced his retirement earlier this year. While Lynch is one of the most unconventional personalities that the NFL has had in a long time, it still caught a lot of people by surprise that the 30-year-old running back would walk away from the game so abruptly. Sure, he had a down year in 2015, as he only played in seven games while battling injuries, but most people thought Lynch would bounce back in 2016.
Apparently, Lynch feels like he still has something in the tank, even though he has been adamant that he’s done with football. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, people close to Lynch think that he is seriously mulling a return to the NFL.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Lynch is currently “up in the air” about returning to the NFL. The source said that Week Four or Week Five could be the hot spots for a possible unretirement.
Because they still own his rights, Lynch would come back to the league as a member of the Seahawks. Considering the team’s running backs are two dudes who are fairly unknown in Thomas Rawls and Christine Michael, it wouldn’t be a huge shock if the ‘Hawks buried the hatchet with Lynch – who occasionally butted heads with the team’s front office, especially towards the end of his tenure – and welcomed him back with open arms.
Of course, Lynch doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would go back on his word so quickly, so we’re still going to assume that he’s not coming back. However, you’d be hard-pressed to find a person who doesn’t want Beast Mode back in the NFL. Well, opposing defenses don’t want him back, but other than that, most people want to see him unretire.
