Nate Diaz came out for his post-fight press scrum looking a little worse for wear with a nasty looking cut on his nose and one of the worst black eyes we’ve seen in a while. But while he didn’t look too good, he seemed happy with his performance and with the break that awaited him now that this second big money fight with Conor McGregor was over.
His relaxed mood may have had something to do with what he was smoking too … a vape pen full of cannabidiol oil.
“It’s CBD,” Diaz said when asked what he was smoking. “It helps with healing process and inflammation and stuff like that. So you wanna get these for before, after the fight, training. It’ll make your life a better place. CBD. CBD oil.”
We’re left wondering whether the stuff in his vape pen could potentially land him in trouble with USADA or the NSAC, who take several tests following the conclusion of every main event fight. This wouldn’t be the first time a Diaz brother has tempted fate with USADA. Earlier this week, a drunk Nick Diaz argued with USADA agents over the phone when they asked to test him after a long night of partying.
But a suspension may not be that big of a concern for Nate. He made it clear after the fight with McGregor that he wouldn’t be fighting again until a third fight went down. “Good job today, Conor,” he said during his post fight interview. “But we’re going for three, for real. Until then, I ain’t coming back.”
Here are all the notes on what he said to reporters, care of MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani:
