Here’s The Mets And Cubs Battling Out The NLCS In ‘Mike Tyson’s Punch Out’

The fact that the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs are playing each other for a spot in the World Series in 2015 is pretty incredible when you think about it. Not only have both franchises been struck with some of the worst luck in all of sports, but they have both been bad teams as recently as last year. But with the Mets young starting pitching and the Cubs big bats, both teams have arrived deep in the postseason well ahead of schedule.

While the matchup between the two teams in this year’s NLCS should be a classic, I’m sure you’re all wondering: “Yes watching these two teams play baseball is great and all, but is there a way that I can get this series simulated on the 1987 NES game ‘Mike Tyson’s Punch Out!!!?'” Well funny you should ask that, because YouTube user Johnny Fitz Live has brought us just that.

In the matchup we see “Cubbie Mac” taking on a terrifying boxer version of Mr. Met, and if the simulation is any indication, the Cubs not only will be headed to the World Series for the first time since 1945, but they will also make quick work of the Mets, as Cubbie Mac destroys the overzealous mascot in the ring.

It’s not all that surprising that the Cubs won the simulation though especially given that Fitz is a big Cubs fan. In fact, they made a very similar animation in the NLDS, where they showed Chicago taking down their rival Cardinals in a spot on imitation of “Duck Hunt” which has the uninspired title of “Card Hunt.”

Maybe having their opponents beaten in old video game simulations is the way to break the curse. If the Cubs make it to the World Series, we can only hope to see them obliterate the Royals or Blue Jays in “Tecmo Bowl.”
