Ohio State Ready To Ruin Another BCS

After dispensing of perennial Big Ten football power Indiana, Ohio State found itself on top of both the AP and coaches’ poll rankings. It’s the first time the Buckeyes were ranked No. 1 since the end of the 2007 season, right before they were torched by LSU.

It’s worth noting that as many as seven FBS teams could finish the regular season undefeated, which would be awesome for those of us rooting for BCS chaos. Never mind Oregon, whose resume’ is highlighted with its win over Standford two weeks ago, but Boise State, TCU, Utah, and even Michigan State still could run the table against its predetermined slate of conference nerd programs and hapless also-rans.

People in college football keep clamoring for a playoff. I’d rather see more parity in regular-season scheduling, where some of these “power conferences” schedule games against better-matched teams in other leagues. Why the hell is Ohio State playing Indiana when they could be playing, say, Oklahoma? It would be like the ACC-Big Ten Challenge in basketball, only far less likely to happen.

Enjoy finishing second in the country again, Columbus. I can’t wait for my mother-in-law to send me another “National Championship Game” tee shirt.
