Jessica Moran has been a Boston Red Sox reporter for Comcast SportsNet ever since 2009. Now, she has suddenly resigned from her position, and rumors are circulating that it is due to her relationship with the team’s manager, John Farrell. In a text message to The Boston Globe, Moran said only:

“I have stepped away from Comcast SportsNet as I thought it was in my best personal and professional interest to do so.  They have been extremely supportive during my tenure at the network — and with this decision — and I am very appreciative of that.”

When asked about it by reporters, Farrell declined to comment on his relationship with Moran, saying,  “My private life is private.” Farrell did mention that he and his wife of 30 years, Sue Farrell, are in the process of getting divorced and have been separated for the last two years. Sue Farrell was not present when the Red Sox manager announced he had cancer back in August of last year.

No one seems to know for sure where or when the rumor started, as reporter Mark Shanahan cites only “speculation among local and national baseball reporters,” but some reports say that there have been rumors about Moran and Farrell’s relationship as far back as last year.

Either way, it was apparently enough to get Moran to resign and force Farrell to answer questions about the situation. With Boston coming off of a 78-84 season, this is about the last thing that they needed to deal with this close to opening day.
