Ronda Rousey Refuses To Talk About Her Mom’s Feud With Her Coach

Earlier this month, Ronda Rousey’s outspoken mother AnnMaria De Mars shocked and surprised some people by completely throwing Ronda’s coach Edmond Tarverdyan under the bus. She called him a “terrible coach” and a “bad person,” and those were among the nicer things she said. Via MMA Fighting:

“I would run over him with my car if there wasn’t a law against it… Every time I go in his gym, he used to say, ‘How are you?’ And I’d say, ‘How the f*ck do you think I am? I’m in your f*cking gym and I f*cking hate you.’ So now he doesn’t ask me how I am anymore. I hate that guy. He’s like the most worthless human being God ever put on this Earth.”

On the plus side, you always know where you stand with Ronda Rousey’s mother. Ronda has finally responded to the controversial interview by basically saying she won’t respond — not to the press, anyways. Via ESPN:

“Any reaction or response I have to my mother, she’s going to hear it from me and not a media outlet,” Rousey said. She declined to indicate whether she had confronted her mother about her comments.

“It’s her mom, at the end of the day, and that’s it,” Tarverdyan said. “I’m a person that’s never spoken negatively about anybody’s mom. I’ve always said a mom is a mom. That’s all I have to say.”

The hatred from Ronda’s mom towards Edmond seems rooted in the fact that he basically ignored Ronda and refused to train her for months when she first arrived at the Glendale Fighting Club. That’s not the most original story in the world — a lot of boxing and MMA coaches will wait for fighters to prove they are serious before investing time into them. But Ronda’s mom took Tarverdyan’s reluctance to train Ronda as a sexist thing — and she’s not completely off base on that.

Still… to say you’d run your daughter’s coach over with a car? That’s a tad strong. But it’s that kind of thing that Ronda’s been dealing with her whole life. Before this outburst, Rousey’s mom said some of her friends were “douchebags” who weren’t willing to tell Ronda the hard truths. At least she’s got a mother who seems willing to fill that role.
