Last February, Russell Wilson set a deadline for contract talks to end by 10 a.m. at the start of Seahawks training camp on July 31. If a deal had not been met by then, discussions for an extension would be tabled until after the 2015 season.

With just hours to spare, it appears as though the deadline was met and an agreement has been reached — Wilson will remain with the Seahawks for the foreseeable future.

The new deal includes a signing bonus of $31 million, and $60 million in guaranteed money. His $21.9 million average salary places him second in the NFL behind Aaron Rodgers’ $22 million, and the $60 million guaranteed is tied for third most guaranteed dollars in NFL history.

Drafted by Seattle in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft (75th overall) out of Wisconsin, Wilson immediately became the Seahawks’ starting quarterback and has not looked back. He led the team to their first Super Bowl win in franchise history in only his second year, and currently holds the NFL record for most regular season wins by a quarterback in his first three seasons with 36.
