Kathryn Smith is the Buffalo Bills’ special teams quality control coach, the first full-time female coach in the NFL. It’s an amazing bit of progress, but it also puts her in the unenviable position of being the target of sexism by boorish individuals who can’t or don’t want to fathom that women could. One such interaction occurred during the Bills’ Monday night game in Seattle.
As Smith took the field with other coaches, the above fan repeatedly yelled out, “Waitress!” and asked for a Pepsi. It’s as unoriginal and abhorrent as you probably imagined, but at least the female fan next to him took exception to it, slapped him in the arm and reprimanded him for his behavior. Just another great example of the type of humanity one experiences at football games.
