Sergey Kovalev Called Adonis Stevenson A Chicken, And All Hell Almost Broke Loose

You’ll be shocked to hear this but there were some serious shenanigans during a boxing match that had nothing to do with the actual fight itself. First, let’s get this out of the way. Sergey Kovalev beat Jean Pascal to a bloody pulp in Montreal Saturday night and retained his unified WBO, IBF, WBA Light Heavyweight title. It got so bad and so brutal in the 7th round that Pascal’s trainer, Freddie Roach, had to throw in the towel. Kovalev improved to 29-0-1 with the victory, 26 of which have come by KO. He is a very good boxer. He is a very dangerous man. There’s a reason he was named Ring’s Fighter of the Year in 2014.

Here’s just one of the more devastating punches he landed on Pascal.

But anyway, nobody was talking about Kovalev’s dominant performance minutes after the fight. That’s because the post-match interview was unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Kovalev called out WBC Light Heavyweight champ Adonis Stevenson (who he called Adonis “Chickenson”). It was ridiculous. He started making these noises that maybe, kinda sounded like an animal of some sort. What animal that is I do not know.

Stevenson was sitting ringside and stormed the ring, grabbed the mic WWE-style and voila, there’s drama in the light heavyweight division guys. Hooray!
