Simone Biles Isn’t Ashamed To Open Up About Having ADHD After Her Medical Records Were Hacked

Simone Biles was arguably the biggest story of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, but just a few weeks after earning four gold medals representing the United States, the talented gymnast is in the headlines for a less desirable reason. On Tuesday, a group of Russian hackers released confidential U.S. Olympic testing records. Biles’ name was part of the hack, and as a result, she revealed that she has ADHD and has taken medicine since her childhood.

This statement from Biles came on the heels of an official release from USA Gymnastics which explained that the 19-year-old has an exemption that allows her to take Ritalin.

As usual, Biles handled the matter with the utmost grace, letting the world know that she was not at all ashamed about the fact that she battles ADHD:

Biles may not be the most famous athlete in the world, but for a brief time in the summer of 2016, she was high on the list. There is, of course, nothing wrong with legally taking a prescribed medication in order to function at the highest possible level, and Biles getting ahead of this with a clear and succinct statement is the best course of action.

Fighting against the stigma of ADHD is an ongoing battle, but Biles once again reminded us all of why she generated such an overwhelmingly positive response in Rio.
