Lakers point guard D’Angelo Russell is in the midst of preparing for the first Lakers season in 20 years without Kobe Bryant, but it wasn’t the Lakers former star who he used to play with in NBA 2K, according to Bleacher Report’s Kevin Ding.

“I told him I remember playing with him on (NBA) 2K; I used to always play as him,” said Russell in the interview about new Lakers head coach Luke Walton. “I’m a fan. I’m definitely a fan. Because he was a point forward.

“[In] my era, I know he was a point forward.”

While that’s a nice sentiment, it’s hard to believe anyone was playing with Walton with any kind of seriousness, and that’s what ex-NBA player Stephen Jackson took issue with in his Instagram post.

“The new NBA. Brown nosing at its best. To be real Luke Walton didn’t pick Luke Walton on 2k,” said a confused Jackson on his Instagram. “U gonna start Kid u ain’t gotta do all that bruh. Man it’s sad I tell ya. Just be real with others and they will respect that.”

Jackson has never had an issue with speaking his mind, and in this case, he’s probably correct. While Russell probably isn’t making a case for more playing time, he does come off a bit as a teacher’s pet saying that he played as Walton in video games.
