See How Arizona State Is Honoring Pat Tillman With Its Uniforms Thursday Night

When Arizona State takes the field for their “Salute to Service” game against Oregon, every player on their roster will be a “Tillman.” Players will be identifiable only by numbers because of a very special cause. The Sun Devils will honor the late Pat Tillman by sporting a retrofitted uniform from the mid-’90s.

Tillman played linebacker for the Sun Devils before being drafted by the Arizona Cardinals to play safety. In 2002, while still on the Cardinals roster, Tillman enlisted in the U.S. Army after the 9/11 attacks. Sadly, he died in 2004 after a tragic friendly fire incident in Afghanistan.

The burgundy and gold uniform will be accented with camouflage Adidas tech fit shirts as an ode to the army uniform. Their helmets will also feature the old cartoonish Sun Devil logo. Usually, uniforms made to honor the troops carry an unappealing aesthetic with massive amounts of camouflage, but these Sun Devil uniforms are crisp, clean and a great way to honor the late Pat Tillman. The Sun Devils will also wear sleek Adidas cleats in neutral Earth tones to complement the jerseys. For once, Oregon players may look across the sidelines at their opponents’ uniform with envy.
