Saturday’s TCU-Texas Tech game was absolutely bananas from beginning to end, but super extra bananas in the final minute.

Trailing 52-48 with just under 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter, TCU faced a fourth down on the goal line with the game hanging in the balance. Horned Frogs quarterback Trevone Boykin airmailed a high throw to his intended receiver in the end zone, who was able to get a hand on it and knock it up to a fellow teammate. Wideout Aaron Green was able to haul in the tipped pass in the back of the end zone, and give No. 3 TCU a late lead with a good chance to avoid the upset.

But those who had their eyes on the entire game probably had the feeling that nothing was out of the question, just because of the sheer absurdity of the entire contest. And they were onto something.

Texas Tech nearly pulled off an miraculous final play with :00 on the clock when their quarterback escaped some a serious pass rush and dodged a few sack opportunities before finding an open receiver with plenty of space to run. After a few laterals, it looked like Tech might have a chance to take it to the house for the incredible finish, but they eventually ran out of real estate and were forced out of bounds to end the game. It was one hell of a final grasp, though.

Ultimately, TCU escaped with the 55-52 victory, but it certainly did not come easy, and they probably aren’t feeling too great about how close they were to falling in a serious upset. As for Tech, they’re probably wishing they didn’t give TCU some free points to work with.
