As the Florida Miami Marlins prepare to open their new stadium and begin their new season in their new uniforms with their new shortstop who will hopefully hit a bunch of home runs to light up their new home run fish statue/shrine, it was only fitting that the team would add some new flair and style to the stadium as well. But it was a little alarming when a new Marlins song, “We are the Marlins”, was making the web rounds yesterday under the guise that it would be the new Miami theme song for celebration.
And we were all like, “Oh hell no.”
Thankfully, it turns out that this song was just a fan effort and is in no way associated with the Marlins.
Who the hell is in charge of the Miami Marlins’ latest creative decisions? First we got that logo and the uniforms. Then came that home run “thing.” Now we’ve got what appears to be a brand new theme song that is predictably horrible. It sounds like a theme song for a pleasure cruise or a flea market or something. We’re still trying to confirm whether or not it’s an official team sanctioned tune. Updated: It’s not official. (Miami New Times)
Thank goodness, indeed. And I’m not saying that because I think that song sucks. I’m saying it because there’s only ever going to be one Marlins song…
