Check Out The Similarities Between Travis Kelce’s Touchdown Celebration And ‘Donkey Kong’

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has a world of talent, and was tabbed by many pundits as primed for a breakout season. After one week, that breakout is very much underway, after he had over 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns against the Houston Texans. The second one was capped off by the great celebration you see above. Does it look familiar? If you play Super Smash Bros, it should.

Kelce admitted that he got the idea from Donkey Kong‘s wind-up punch in the Nintendo fight game series. With enough winding up, the punch is powerful indeed (courtesy of Yahoo Sports):

Since “Donkey Punch” is too dirty, the NFL had a naming contest for the highlight, and here was your winner:

Yahoo Sports asked Kelce about the name, and he (appropriately) loves it:

“Yeah, the god of all gods,” he said. “You know what I mean? Greek mythology is awesome, man. It makes me feel a lot more cooler than I really am.”

The humility’s a nice touch, but Kelce has proven himself to be one of the cooler players in the NFL. Here’s hoping he scores a whole bunch more touchdowns this year so we can get more fun celebrations.
