Controversial UFC fighter Nick Diaz was just handed a very serious 5-year suspension and $165,000 fine by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for his positive drug test immediately following his UFC 183 loss to Anderson Silva. The fight was eventually declared a no contest because Silva tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs, while Diaz reportedly had marijuana metabolites in his system, and that was a big problem for the Stockton fighter, because of his previous offenses.

Having received suspensions for positive drug tests in 2007 and 2012 (both marijuana), Diaz should have been expecting a punishment like this; however, according to Fox Sports, his attorney “vehemently disagreed with the test results” and argued that the positive test was false because of the fighter’s two previous negative tests. The NSAC also reportedly considered issuing a lifetime ban to Diaz, but considering his age, the 5-year suspension is basically the same thing.

Diaz did himself no favors in the hearing by invoking the Fifth Amendment to every question, but he certainly wanted to speak his mind, if not for those pesky lawyers.

“I wanted to tell them what I think. I wanted to tell each and every one of them they’re a bunch of dorks. Everybody who sees them or knows who they are, should tell them that. I would. If it weren’t for my experts advising me to keep my mouth shut. I wanted to get up and say, ‘Look. You guys are way the f— out of line.'” (Via ESPN)

Additionally, his statement to Fox Sports is certainly classic Nick Diaz.

“I’m pretty pissed off,” Diaz told FOX Sports after the hearing ended. “I got into this sport for this exact reason being stuck in a room like that with people like that. First of all, this sport, this commission, they’ve done everything they can to keep me from being all the way on top where I should be. They’ve done everything they could to keep me from proving to the world that I’m the best fighter in the world, which I am. They want to have nothing but weak sauce fighters in the sport.
