Saints’ Payton Officially A N’Awlins Refugee

We’ll round up some Super Bowl news in a minute, but first a bizarre Saints head coach Sean Payton is packing up his family from New Orleans and moving them to an upscale Dallas-area home that he just purchased. Payton will continue to maintain a home in New Orleans, which is a good thing to keep in mind if you’re celebrating Fat Tuesday and you need a place to crash.

Tom Benson and Payton both released statements on the move. Benson gave no insight or semblance of reason why Payton, here and now, was deciding to move away.

Sean is making a decision in the best interest of his family and he needs our support and he will get it. What I do know is that Sean is completely focused on bringing our team back to a championship. We continue to move in that right direction and I look forward to 2011.”

Sean Payton’s statement was equally enlightening.

“When my wife and I relocated our family from Dallas, we had always dreamed of someday settling there. We feel that now is the best time to do this. It’s a decision that I’m sure many families have to confront, and I don’t know if there is any one right or wrong decision – just the best one you can make for your own family.”

You mean to tell me that New Orleans is a terrible place to live? I’ve heard it’s quite nice if you’re poor and wasted for the majority of the day. I’ve never been to Bourbon Street or any of that and some of you probably think it’s awesome, and that’s great. I’d rather get drunk where I can pass out in my own vomit, and not someone else’s.
