This Home Run-Robbing Catch Might Be The Greatest Wiffle Ball Play Of All-Time

Back on Aug. 7 in Scotia, New York, Game 2 of the Wiffle Ball World Series was going down between the Yankees and the Athletics. In what that makeshift scoreboard says was the third inning, an A’s hitter launched a rocket to deep left-center field off a nasty rising slider. The fields are tiny in Wiffle Ball, so easy home run, right? WRONG.

For those scoring at home, that’s probably an 8-5 putout (I’m pretty sure that’s the centerfielder, but anyway there aren’t nine people on the field, so lay off), but the box score won’t do that play justice. Elite hops to bring that ball back into the yard, and amazing quickness to save it for an out, especially considering how flat-footed the guy was before launching into his dive. What a crazy play.

Let’s just take a second to admonish the villain of this video, though. The man who was at third base when the play started committed a couple of baseball sins here:

  • Looked away from the play while it was still live (Though there were two outs).
  • Wore a PINK SHIRT. Alternate unis are a team effort, guy. Do your dang laundry and show up in team colors.
  • Generally doesn’t give a crap about anything.

Bad job by pink-shirt guy. Great job by everyone else.
