Do you love sticking it to the man, and showing him who’s the boss? Are you the sort of do-it-yourself kind of person that isn’t afraid to take matters into your own hands? If you answered yes to all three of these questions, then I’m about to save you $800 bucks with these next few words: do not, under any circumstances, drill a hole in your iPhone 7 looking for headphone jack gold. It’s a hoax. Put down the power tools, and step away from the perfectly properly functioning iPhone.
Why am I telling you all this? Well, it’s because YouTube user TechRax already has headphone jack truthers out here believing all it takes to bring back the headphone jack is a drill and some will. The DIY video shows the user taking a 3.5mm drill bit to the bottom of his shiny new iPhone 7, then simply plugging in some earbuds and listening to music. That’s it! Life hacks, yo! Wrong, now you have a hole in your iPhone 7 that leads to nowhere except regret. It’s a regret hole.
Let us repeat; drilling a hole into your phone is not a thing you should do, and you should not be doing this thing. Either use the adapter Apple provides, or for the love of everything that is sacred, deal with lightning port life and take the headphone jack L. It’s quite possible in the future someone comes up with a legitimate hack that enables you to use your old headphones on your iPhone 7 without any adapters, but this is not it.
