Facebook Is Trying To Become More Like Snapchat With A New Timeline Feature

Facebook just can’t stop messing with its own site, even when that ends poorly for everyone involved. The good news is that their latest change is optional, but it’s also as harmless as it is baffling. For some reason, you’ll soon be able to post stuff exclusively to your News Feed, and leave it off your Timeline.

Right now, of course, when you post something, it gets pushed out to News Feeds across the site, and also added to your Timeline. But Facebook is testing an option that, with the check of a box, would mean it goes only to your News Feed. So, basically, you can post stuff to a News Feed, but have no record of it elsewhere. It does sound a bit like Snapchat, but not enough to really make a dent in that seemingly unstoppable site’s userbase.

This is already an option, sort of; you’re free to edit your Timeline any way you wish, so you can just go in and delete anything you don’t want out there. Apparently, this is common enough that Facebook felt the need to streamline it, which makes us wonder just what people have been putting out there in the first place. Really if you find yourself constantly deleting things off your Timeline, it might be time to reconsider a few life choices.

Either way, it’s in testing now, and Facebook will likely roll it out for everyone in the next few months. So, if you really feel the need to make Facebook a bit more like Snapchat, now you can.
