Someone Needs To Show Chuck Grassley How To Silence His iPhone

When we last checked in on nearly 80 year-old avant garde Twitter user Chuck Grassley, he was joining all the…I’m not sure who…on Vyou. So it’s safe to say that the Senator from Iowa is one of the few members of the notoriously elderly and white U.S. Senate who has made at least a passing effort to embrace modern technology, but apparently he has yet to learn how to silence his iPhone.

The 78-year-old Iowa senator found his own speech interrupted on Capitol Hill on Wednesday by the familiar Marimba ring of his iPhone. He reached into his pocket and after several seconds, quieted the phone before continuing his speech.

Grassley was speaking against the nomination of Jeffrey Helmick to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, when the phone rang out.

C-Span cameras quickly cut away from Grassley, the chairman of the Senate judiciary committee, but he could be heard muttering to himself in frustration as he tried to silence the device.

Still, I suppose Grassley deserves credit for having an iPhone and not, say, a Blackberry. I, for one, would pay to watch him trying to use Siri.
