An Oscar Nominee Is Rumored To Be Joining The ‘Game Of Thrones’ Cast

Around this time last year, all Game of Thrones book readers could talk about to non-book readers was how awesome Oberyn Martell was, and that nothing horrible and painful would ever happen to him, nope, no sir. Well, we were half-right? Anyway, this year’s Red Viper are the Sand Snakes. They’re as clever and sexy as their nickname is cool, which is why I hope this rumor proves true.

Keisha Castle-Hughes, who rose to stardom aged 13 in an Academy Award-nominated performance as hero Paikea in Whale Rider, told friends she had landed a role on the fantasy series. The 24-year-old is understood to be playing a Sand Snake, one of eight daughters of Prince Oberyn Martell. The mum-of-one could fit the role of Nymeria Sand, who is described as being beautiful, of mixed race, emotional, and strong.

Castle-Hughes, who also starred in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (we won’t hold that against her, though), was nominated in 2003 with winner Charlize Theron, Samantha Morton, Naomi Watts, and Diane Keaton. There you have it, casting department: your Sand Snakes!
