Key & Peele Went Behind The Scenes Of ‘Family Matters’ To Expose The Sinister Dealings Of Steve Urkel

In this sketch from next week’s episode of Key & Peele, the duo imagine just how much disdain there must have been for Steve Urkel/Jaleel White behind the scenes of Family Matters. In a fictionalized 1997 Hollywood meeting, Reginald VelJohnson (Carl Winslow, here played by Jordan Peele) flips out about Urkelmania, and how Jaleel White becoming a series regular has overshadowed the rest of the cast.

“This was supposed to be a blue collar Cosby Show,” an irate Veljohnson screams at an ABC executive, lamenting yet another Urkel-led, sci-fi-heavy A-plot. “Now you turn it into goddam Quantum Leap!”

I won’t ruin the surprise, but the insanity — as it tends to do in Key & Peele sketches — only elevates from there.
