More Than 86,000 People Applied For 600 ‘Game Of Thrones’ Extra Roles In Spain

Filming for the fifth season of HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones has been underway for the last few weeks in various locations in Spain, and locals and fans alike have been trying to get a look at the action. Earlier this month, fans and media members crowded the gates of the Real Alcázar de Sevilla, which served as the home of House Martell, but that was nothing compared to the excitement and enthusiasm in the town of Osuna, where a big battle scene was being filmed at a bullring yesterday.

A production company put out a casting call for approximately 600 extras, according to Entertainment Weekly, and the response was just a little overwhelming. More than 86,000 people submitted applications, which was way more than the company’s servers could handle. Obviously, local officials are thrilled with the attention and visitors, as Getty reports that all of the hotel rooms in Osuna have been booked through the end of October, and the tourism center has even extended its hours to accommodate the show’s fans who traveled with the hopes of getting to participate in a scene.

Maybe they’ll even get to bring home some fake blood.
