Jason Jones Is Leaving ‘The Daily Show’ To Star In A New TBS Show

Cross Jason Jones’ name off the list of potential Daily Show hosts. After nine and a half years by Jon Stewart’s side as a correspondent, Jones is taking a cue from his boss and also exiting the show.

Jones’ new TBS show is the untitled family vacation comedy that both he and his wife/fellow Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee are producing, though Bee isn’t expected to star. It’s not yet known if the new show will also push Bee to leave The Daily Show and disappoint those who had hoped that she might take over for Stewart when he leaves, but now we know that the dream of a husband and wife team-up at the host desk is as dead as disco.

As for Jones’ and Bee’s new show, here’s a synopsis by way of TVLine.

The series — based on the couple’s own experiences with family getaways — will star Jones as unfiltered dad Nate and Natalie Zea (Justified, The Following) as his wife.

The couple and their two kids — rebellious daughter Delilah (Louie‘s Ashley Gerasimovich) and simpleton son Jared (The Neighbors‘s Liam Carroll) — will pile into their car and embark on a trip to Florida that Nate feels will be “the adventure of a lifetime,” according to the network. “Every leg of their trip, however, is fraught with unforeseen disaster as they encounter one hellish turn after another. Plans call for each season of the show to chronicle a different family adventure.”

Like Jones, Bee, and the once and future Superstation, I also enjoy the National Lampoon’s Family Vacation movies and Little Miss Sunshine, but will this show find a way to feel original within its familiar premise? Time will tell, but right now, I imagine TBS would be happy if they found something to displace Big Bang Theory reruns as its most notable prime time program.
