HBO Renews ‘Last Week Tonight’ For Two More Seasons, So At Least John Oliver Won’t Leave Us

Dave Itzkoff announced on Twitter that HBO has renewed Last Week Tonight With John Oliver for two more seasons, which is great news! Not only does it mean that one less beloved late-night host is at risk of leaving us, but it also narrows the field of possible new hosts for The Daily Show. It is definitely not going to be John Oliver (nor Jessica Williams, nor Joel McHale), so those of us who like to play Fantasy TV Executive — or Drunk Fantasy TV Executive — can speculate more heavily on a smaller number of candidates.

It also means that Oliver will be around for at least some of the 2016 election cycle. This is really excellent news because Jon Stewart is leaving and Stephen Colbert is doing a non-political show. We are desperately going to need more of those finely crafted Last Week Tonight rants.
