While few were surprised at the firing of Top Gear‘s Jeremy Clarkson following an altercation between him and a producer, many were quite upset by the news. So much so that Tony Hall, the director-general of the BBC, has received death threats:

Tony Hall and his wife Cynthia have been guarded round the clock at their home since a terrifying email was sent to the BBC just hours after he took the dramatic decision to drop the controversial Top Gear star.

Last night Scotland Yard confirmed officers were investigating the ‘threat to kill’ made on Wednesday, after the BBC decided it was ‘credible’ and alerted police.

An eight-man security force is reportedly watching over Hall and his wife. According to London police, the threat came from outside of the UK. No shock, as the program has a viewership of over 350 million across the globe. And Hall isn’t the only one to get threats — Oisin Tymon, the producer attacked by Clarkson, has also received threats over social media.

All this because Clarkson’s dinner wasn’t ready.
