The CW Is Turning Childhood Classic ‘Little Women’ Into A Gritty, Dystopian Thriller

Well, if you’re the type who actually read books other than Harry Potter as a child, get ready to feel angry for the rest of the day, because The CW has announced they’re turning Little Women into a “hyper-stylized,” gritty thriller. No, really.

Little Women, written by Louisa May Alcott in 1868, is about four sisters coming of age and finding love during the Civil War era. It’s resonated with girls for nearly 150 years, but that’s probably just because people didn’t know any better. Don’t worry, though. The CW is here to tune up this old clunker! This ain’t your dumb grandma’s Little Women! In the new version, half-sisters Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy band together to survive the gritty, dystopian streets of Philadelphia and unravel a vast conspiracy, while trying not to kill each other. Yup, vast conspiracies, that’s probably what Little Women was lacking.

The series will be scripted by Alex Jolly, a rising writer who recently sold A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a biopic about Mr. Rogers. So yeah, this guy is all about going after your cherished mild childhood entertainment. The show will be produced Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo from NCIS).

I mean, I suppose this version of Little Women could be okay if it keeps it’s tongue firmly in-cheek at all times, but on the other hand, it’s being produced by somebody from NCIS. My hopes for anything above lowest common denominator are, well, pretty low.
