Bill O’Reilly Warns Donald Trump To ‘Cease’ Attacks On Megyn Kelly, As Do Geraldo Rivera And Twitter

On Tuesday evening’s edition of Fox’s The O’Reilly Factor, Bill O’Reilly took great umbrage with Donald Trump for his latest Twitter attack on Megyn Kelly after she returned from vacation, which may or may not have been a condition of Trump’s on-off truce with Fox News. Trump’s still bitter about the Fox New GOP debate, which he says was a Trump success even though he threatened Kelly on live television.

Trump, who should be focused upon national issues, is still hung up on Kelly’s seeming betrayal. He mercilessly Twitter-trolled Kelly once and did it again on Monday night. He devoted hours to calling her a “bimbo” who needs to find a different line of work.

Fox News was not pleased at this (continued) turn of events. Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes called for Trump’s apology and threw down a swift statement of disapproval:

“Donald Trump’s surprise and unprovoked attack on Megyn Kelly during her show last night is as unacceptable as it is disturbing. Megyn Kelly represents the very best of American journalism and all of us at Fox News Channel reject the crude and irresponsible attempts to suggest otherwise. I could not be more proud of Megyn for her professionalism and class in the face of all of Mr. Trump’s verbal assaults. Her questioning of Mr. Trump at the debate was tough but fair … Donald Trump rarely apologizes, although in this case, he should.”

Trump replied in classic Trump fashion. That is to say, he vehemently disagreed:

“I totally disagree with the FOX statement. I do not think Megyn Kelly is a quality journalist. I think her questioning of me, despite all of the polls saying I won the debate, was very unfair. Hopefully in the future I will be proven wrong and she will be able to elevate her standards to a level of professionalism that a network such as FOX deserves.”

Then O’Reilly got involved on Tuesday evening. He considers both Kelly and Trump friends, but would like Trump to shut his yap:

“Donald Trump once again tweeted some not nice things about Megyn Kelly. Not good. The debate issue should be buried. It’s over. Folks can make up their own minds about it. Fox News chief Roger Ailes once again stood up for Megyn because Roger’s a loyal guy. And as the general here, he protects his troops. Roger Ailes has protected me countless times against unfair assaults by vicious media people. The Kelly-Trump story is relevant to me because I’m friends with both of them. They both bring things to America that are worthy and positive. Miss Megan has taken the high road by not responding. Donald Trump should cease, and Roger Ailes is a stand-up guy.”

Regardless of whether one likes O’Reilly, it’s hard to argue about Trump’s fixation on both a singular debate and Megyn Kelly. He’s forgotten about the issues and focuses instead on a personal vendetta. More news — many other famous and non-famous Twitter members appear to disagree with Trump’s treatment of Kelly. This wasn’t coming from just one side of the political spectrum. Several of Trump’s professed supporters expressed their disappointment in how he keeps trying to take down Kelly.

First up, even Geraldo Rivera tells Trump to cool it with Kelly, and several others follow,
